How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall?
I know the answer is “Practice, practice, practice.” But I didn’t see this one coming.
The Details
On June 27, the film I produced Audio Description for, Possibilities, is screening at Carnegie Hall.
In the credits. Audio Description producer, for a film screening called Possibilities: Honoring the Legacy of Helen Keller.
When those credits roll, you’ll see “Roy Samuelson” – right next to Satauna Howery, who performed it. And Colleen Connor and Bridget Melton, who wrote it. Serina Gilbert, who checked it. Jeff Ross, who engineered it.
I didn’t engineer this. I found out it was happening and felt something I can’t fully name. Not pride, exactly. Recognition that arrives sideways. The record reflecting who was actually in the room.
Because our work wasn’t to get our names in a Carnegie Hall program. We were there so blind audiences can experience the film the way it was meant to be experienced, thanks to the visionary director Bill Sarine.
And it’s thanks to the practice of this work, that we were ready to deliver the Audio Description.
